Grapple & Strike Fight Night 5
Congratulations to Combat Academy fighter Chris Konieczny on an awesome performance against Iron Warriors fighter Liam Ronan at Grapple & Strike 5.
Chris looked to be comfortable in the early stand-up exchanges and also scored a number of takedowns. Although Chris took top position, Liam managed to reverse the position and controlled much of the fight from the top position on the ground to secure the win via a judges decision.

Chris will once again face Iron Warriors fighter Liam Ronan in a semi-professional fight. Chris lost to Liam by judges decision at Grapple & Strike Fight Night 3, in an encounter that had the crowd on its feet throughout the two rounds.

Shakey Wins Pro MMA Debut
Congratulations to Combat Academy affiliate Richard 'Shakey' Shore of Tillery Combat MMA Academy, on his win at the Strengh and Honour mixed martial arts show held in Exeter (29/11/08).
Shakey fought Ray Burns of team Pedro Bessa stopping him via ground and pound at 4mins and 45 secs of round 1. __________________________________________________________________________

British Champions
Congratulations to Combat Academy fighters Lisa Jones, Sarah Jones, Antonio Celozzi, Ben Oliver, Olly Bohn, Ryan Hill and coach Emma Baker on their performance in the National Ju Jutsu Kumite Council British Championships held on Sunday 16 November at Perdiswell Leisue Centre Worcester.
Pride of place went to Lisa Jones (under 30kg) and Olly Bohn (under 35kg) who both sucessfully defended their British Titles. For Olly this is the fifth year running that he has been the British Champion.
Sarah Jones (under 40kg) and Antonio Celozzi (under 25kg) collected silver medals in their respective categories, and Ben Oliver (under 35kg) and Emma Baker (ladies open) collected bronze medals.

UK MMA League
Congratulations to Combat Academy fighter Chris Konieczny on his performance in the 3rd round of the UKMMA League held in Nottingham on Saturday 15 November 2008.
Chris had two fights recording one win by key-lock from the mount, and one draw.
Dean Bradbury suffered an injury to his knee in his first fight and had to withdraw from the event.

Tillery Combat Affiliation
Tillery already have a successful MMA team, and coach Richard Shore is looking to develop a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu team to compete on the BJJ circuit.
Combat Academy coach Dave Coles will travel down to Abertillery on a regular basis as the chief coach to the Tillery BJJ team.

ML Sports Open Trials
Congratulations to Combat Academy fighter Dean Bradbury on his performance in the finals of the ML Sports Open Trials, Amateur MMA tournament.
Dean lost his quarter-final fight by a split decision to Adrian Dimberline, who went on to defeat his next two opponents by submissions to win the tournament.

A Busy Few Weeks
Combat Academy fighters have a busy few weeks ahead competing at events throughout the country. On Sunday 2nd November Pat Baker, Emma Baker, Graham Coles, Andy Blanchard, Ty Husbands and Simon Pearce will be competing in the Kent Open Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Championships.
On the same day Dean Bradbury will be competing in the finals of the ML Sports Open Trials amateur mixed martial arts event held at Hereford Leisure Centre.
On Sunday 16th November Lisa Jones, Sarah Jones, Antonio Celozzi, Ben Oliver, Olly Bohn and Ryan Hill will be looking for national honours when they compete in The National Ju Jutsu Kumite Council British Championships at Perdiswell Leisue Centre Worcester.

Grapple & Strike Fight Night 5
and the Welsh League Finals
Combat Academy fighters Dean Bradbury and Chris Konieczny will be in action in the cage at the above championships on Saturday 6 December 2008.
After finishing top of the amateur league with 3 wins and 1 draw, Dean now faces a 4 man elimination in one night. Dean will be facing Dave Payne of Bristol Goshin Jutsu in the first semi-final. A win in that fight would see him face the winner of the second semi-final between Luke Mein of Panthers MMA and Richard Little from the Isle of Man MMA team.
Chris Konieczny will once again face Iron Warriors fighter Liam Ronan in a semi-professional fight. Chris lost to Liam by judges decision at Grapple & Strike Fight Night 3, in an encounter that had the crowd on its feet throughout the two rounds.
Anyone interested in supporting Chris and Dean should order tickets through the fighters ASAP.

New Conditioning Class at Pyramid
A class designed to improve your flexibility, balance, absolute and relative strength, acrobatic ability and general conditioning. All of which are important for the martial artist.
Class' will be taken by Andrea Slivkova, an ex-Olympic level gymnast and coach,
with nearly two decades of experience in the sports and fitness industry.
She has also worked as a personal trainer, class instructor and sports injury therapist for more than 10 years.

Pyramid Fitness is holding an open day on Saturday, July 19, 2008, 1:00pm - 4:00pm.
Talks, advice and demonstrations incliding; nutrition, diet, fitness, posing routines, sports massage, and sports injury. A martial arts open mat will also take place.

Karate Medals
Congratulations to Combat Academy fighter Jade Lewis on her Silver Medals in the Hereford Contact Karate Club Open Championships (July 6). Jade who is a Ju Jutsu Kumite fighter, entered the event to practice her punching and kicking techniques and had a total of 7 fights to take second place in both the -125 cms category and team event. Ryan Hill, who trains Ju Jutsu Kumite and Karate, collected a hard-earned Silver medal in the advanced -135 category, and Sarah Jones, who also trains in both disciplines took a Silver medal in the Junior Open Category.

Grapple & Strike FN3 Result
Congratulations to Combat Academy fighter Chris Konieczny for an awesome performance at Grapple & Strike Fight Night 3. Chris faced Iron Warriors fighter Liam Ronan and constantly pushed the fight. He rocked his opponent with some accurate punching, forced him to defend many shoot attempts, and had him frantically defending a solid arm-bar attempt. Chris also managed to secure mount on two separate occasions. Despite this the judges scored the fight in favour of the tough Iron Warriors fighter in a fight that had the crowd on its feet throughout the two rounds.

Chris K Confirmed for Fight Night 3
Combat Academy fighter Chris Konieczny is confirmed on the card for Grapple & Strike Fight Night 3. Chris will face the Iron Warriors fighter Liam Ronan, and he is currently training hard for another tough fight.
The fight will take place at Nantyglo Leisure Centre South Wales on Saturday 17th May. Spectator tickets are £15 in advance or £18 on the door and can be ordered through Chris.

Good luck to the following Combat Academy fighters who are competing in Round 1 of the Grapple & Strike Amateur Championships (09/03/2008).
Newcomer Helal Ali will be making his Amateur MMA debut in the -71kg category.
Jeremy Kemp (-71kg) and Dean Bradbury (-94kg) will be looking for their first wins after recording two draws in their recent debut at the Combat Sports Open Trials.
Chris Konieczny has an Amateur MMA record of won 0 - lost 1 - drawn 2. With a debut win under semi-professional rules at Grapple & Strike XIII, Chris is looking to qualify for this years finals.
Coach Dave Coles (-94kg) has an Amateur MMA record of won 9 - lost 4 - drawn 4. He will be looking to get back to winning ways after loosing three of his last four fights.

New Class
Starting Monday 7 January 2008 we will be running an additional MMA class.
The class will run 7.15 - 8.30 and will focus on striking and clinchwork.
There will be lots of pad & bag work, sparring and some killer circuits!
