2007 Student of the Year
& Awards

The awards are presented for commitment and attitude to training, team spirit, contribution to the club and competition performance.
Senior & Overall Student of the Year:
Chris Konieczny

Chris was named The Combat Academy senior and overall student of the year.
A dedicated martial artist, in 2007 Chris has competed in Submission Fighting, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Ground-fighting, Muay Thai and Mixed Martial Arts.

Chris is a dedicated trainer and compliments his training at the Academy with extra Muay Thai lessons. His Competition highlight came in Grapple & Strike Fight Night 2, where he marked his semi-professional debut with a win via RNC.

A well deserved end to year for this valued member of the Combat Academy team.

Junior Student of the Year: Lisa Jones

Lisa has an excellent attitude to her training and works hard to improve her fight game. This effort was rewarded with a Gold medal in the NJJKC British Championships.

The award also takes into account 'Team Spirit,' and it has not gone un-noticed that even when her own fights are over, Lisa often stops behind at events to support her team mates.

A well deserved winner of The Combat Academy Junior Student of the Year Award 2007.

Most Promising Junior: Antonio Celozzi

Antonio is one of the most entertaining Junior fighters in the club and will fight anyone that is put infront of him.  The techniques he pulls off in the club often have the coaches shaking their heads in amazement. With a little more experience Antonio will be performing these techniques in competitions and he is certainly one to watch out for in the future.

If he keeps up with his efforts he will be a serious contender for the 2008 Student of the Year Award and a British Title may not be too far away.

Best Endeavour: Ryan Hill

Training on a Monday, Tuesday and Thursday night, Ryan is the most regular trainer at The Academy and he enters nearly every competition going. A contender for this years student of the year award, Ryan is another student who is a potential future British Champion.

Most Promising Senior Newcomer: Nick Hughes

Nick is a regular trainer at the Academy making a 40 mile round trip to do so. He has fought in a variety of disciplines including Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, submission fighting, Ju Jutsu Kumite and ground-fighting.

Highlights of the year include a Bronze Medal in the Bristol Open BJJ competition, a submission win over a Black Belt in the Midlands Ju Jutsu Kumite event and a stripe on his belt awarded by Braulio Estima.
