The Combat Academy
2006 Student of the Year

The awards are presented for commitment and attitude to training, team spirit, contribution to the club and competition performance.
Senior & Overall Student of the Year:
Emma Baker

Emma Baker was named The Combat Academy overall student of the year.
A dedicated martial artist, in 2006 Emma has competed in Submission Fighting, Ju-Jutsu Kumite, Karate and Ground-fighting. Competition highlights came in the British Open Submission Fighting Championships and NJJKC Brisitsh Ju Jutsu Kumite Championships with Emma taking Silver and Gold Medals respectively.

Every week Emma can be found giving up her time to help with the coaching of the junior fighters. At tournaments, in addition to preparing for her own fights, Emma runs around coaching and looking after our junior fighters.

At our own competitions Emma is there at the start of the day putting the mats out, helping out with running the table and making sure the juniors are ready for their fights.

In addition to this award Emma was also named Hereford Contact Karate Club Student of the Year. A feat never before achieved.

A well deserved end to year for this valued team member.

Junior Student of the Year: Ross Hutchinson

A Gold medallist in the NJJKC British Kumite and British Grappling championships and a third place in the MMA Grand-Prix, Ross certainly has excelled on the competition circuit. However the award is not just about competition performance. Ross has missed very few training sessions and works hard to improve his fight game. Ross has also travelled to support other Academy fighters at events where he is not competing himself. A well deserved winner of The Combat Academy Junior Student of the Year Award 2006.
