The Combat Academy
2005 Student of the Year

The awards are presented for commitment and attitude to training, team spirit and competition performance.

This year the format for the awards was changed slightly as all Academy members were given the opportunity to nominate.

Instructors Dave and Simon independently drew up their short list and then compared these to the nominations received.
Senior & Overall Student of the Year:
Neil Preedy

Neil Preedy was named The Combat Academy overall student of the year.
A dedicated martial artist, in 2005 Neil has competed in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Submission Fighting, Ju-Jutsu Kumite and Ground-fighting. Competition highlights came in the London Open Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Championships and The 'Fighters' British Open Submission Fighting Championships, with Neil taking Silver Medals in both events.

In the club Neil is a dedicated trainer and is always willing to help other members with their training.

He shows great team spirit and at tournaments he can be found helping and encouraging his team mates.

A well deserved end to year for this valued team member.

Junior Student of the Year: Olly Bohn

Gold medals in the NJJKC Welsh, Southern and Midland area events and retaining his NJJKC British title, in addition to being the highest placed Academy member in the MMA Grand-Prix, Olly Bohn was going to be difficult to beat with regards to his competition performance. However the award is not just about competition performance. Win, loose (it does happen occasionally!) or draw Olly shows great sportsmanship. Olly has missed very few training sessions and works hard to improve his fight game. A well deserved winner of The Combat Academy Junior Student of the Year Award 2005.
