Andy Morris (white belt) v Craig Curtis
Dave Coles (blue gi) v Mark Fricker
Stan Cantrill (red belt)
High Wycombe Masters:
May 25 2002
Andy Morris under 90kg: 5th place:
Andy was narrowly defeated in his first fight by the current World Masters Judo Champion, Josh Gavin. A convincing victory in his next fight saw him progress to the knockout phase. In the quarter final despite leading for much of the fight, Andy was caught for a waza-ari late in the fight. He was then narrowly defeated in the bronze medal fight.
Stan Cantrill under 81kg: 5th place.
Stan was thrown for waza-ari early in his first fight, he replied with a massive O Soto Gari for Ippon. A further 10 point win saw him progress to the knockout phase. Follwing a tactical error, he lost in the quarter final and was then narrowly defeated in the Bronze medal fight.
Dave Coles (under 90kg) defeated former British squad member Mark Fricker in his first fight. Unfortunately in his next bout he suffered a bad injury to his thumb and had to withdraw from the event.
Andy Whitehouse (white belt)
Andy Whitehouse, a 3 kyu Blue Belt, was the only non black belt competing in the under 73 kg category. In his first fight he faced a 2nd Dan whom he unceremoniously dumped for 10 with a massive uranage. He was defeated in his second fight after putting up a valiant performance against a 4th Dan.
